Podcast Script: Sugar's New Developer WebsiteWelcome to this 60 second Sugar snippet. My name is Susie Williams. Today we're going to take an audio tour through Sugar's new developer website, the one-stop shop for getting up to speed on how to code in the Sugar environment. The site is located at developers.sugarcrm.com. The developer website was designed for two main audiences: developers who are new to Sugar who need to quickly get up to speed on coding concepts, and seasoned Sugar developers who may need to learn about a new release or to look up a quick fact or two. Most of the content for the site has been accumulated from other websites. Think of this site as a giant Rolodex of all things a Sugar Developer needs to create fantastic work. If you use your Sugarcrm.com login credentials to log onto the site, you can see additional content that's appropriate for you; we will add partner- and customer-specific materials that match the level of access you have on the Sugarcrm.com site. If you don't log in, you'll still see a wealth of information that applies to all editions of Sugar, but you won't see Pro- or Enterprise-specific content. The left side of the home page has menu items for just about everything you'd need to find. The Developer Start page has a plethora of links on the most commonly-requested topics for new developers, including areas on module development, customizing Sugar, performance and scalability, and configuration and installation. If you need to get up to speed on the various components of the LAMP stack, which Sugar depends on, we have included links to the dev sites for the most popular items. We have links for MySql, Microsoft's MSSQL, and Oracle for database help. There are also links to Zend PHP, Apache and IIS help too. We have included a Tool Box area of the site for code samples, video tutorials, and links to documentation. This is one area we will definitely build out as we get additional source material. We have included links to other useful Sugar sites such as the Forums, the Wiki, and Sugar Forge; we have also put a shortcut to our IRC chat page as well. We put our new Developer Blog right in the middle of the home page, so you can easily find the latest "hot off the presses" info from the Sugar team. You'll see entries from Sugar Online team members like Andy Dreisch, Julian Ostrow, and me, plus other guest bloggers on occasion from our Engineering and Support teams. There's an RSS feed so you can subscribe to it and keep up to date with the latest news at Sugar. Finally, at the bottom of the home page we have included some statistics pulled from our Sugar Forum website to recognize the most active developers and top posters this month. We hope you like our new website and trust that you find it useful and informative! If you have any feedback, please let us know. We have set up a special forum thread for you to post your comments and suggestions. We want to hear from you. Remember, developers.sugarcrm.com is the place to be! And that's your 60 second Sugar snippet. Goodbye! |
