New Format

Hi all, we're trying something new starting with this month's newsletter.

First, we're issuing this newsletter using the spiffy new Newsletter functionality available starting with Release 4.5.1.

But the real change to the format is to stop with the long-winded messages (like this one!) and cut to the chase with snippets of data that are of particular interest to the Sugar developer community.

As this newsletter now directly addresses the Sugar Developer community, and given that Developers tend to the one-liner explanations, we thought we'd give this approach a go.

If Sugar Dev-User Group sessions to date look more like developer training--you're right. And we've got a slew of techie doco arising from them so far with more still to come. Never fear, soon we'll involve more user topics and we're set to launch on-site events as well.
Speaking of SDUG on-site events, Max "kpit" Blackmer is setting one up in Chicago on March 10th. David Moceri from RapidX is planning one for South Florida in April or May.
Looks like ruchida has a similar SDUG gig for Japan. We're waiting on others to step up and co-host events. Sugar provides logistical support.
rickcrites, Prolific Poster extraordinaire, raised a wonderful point about providing contributions to our hard-working Sugar Developer community members. Soon afterward we followed up with a SugarExchange Contributions category expressly for this purpose. Learn more about the SugarExchange Sugar community contribution mechanism.
Oh, and Max "Mr Chicago SDUG" Blackmer has volunteered to test out our new SugarExchange Implementation Svcs category. Now you, as a Sugar implementation expert, can offer your services to the Sugar user community.
Did anybody know that Ken Brill actually is involved with as many as 40 Sugar projects? Now that you know, are you surprised? (See sidebar)

Asertiva Thunderbird Extension is February's Project of the Month

From our friends at Asertiva comes a great extension, the "Asertiva Thunderbird Extension for Sugar". You can archive email messages from Thunderbird to Sugar Open Source, import and export Contacts, and use those contacts and leads as a Thunderbird address book. Keep your contacts synchronized and updated.

We had a little time over the holidays to implement some long-awaited changes. We hope you like them.

CAPTCHA at the registration page cuts way back on spam.
A Quick Reply mechanism allows for rapid responses to posts.
A "Similar Threads" panel now appears under new threads.
A "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread" panel also appears.
The Today's Events are populated with SDUG events and, soon, Sugar University learning sessions.
