The Sugar Spring Developer's ContestThe Sugar Spring Developer's Contest is over and we have a winner! Well, actually we have two winners for:
Thanks go to everybody who participated in this spring's Developer Contest. It was a tough job this year choosing the best among the excellent submissions. We were frankly surprised by the robustness and depth of the submissions. We painstakingly review each contest submission based on several criteria and narrow the list down to the top 10 projects. We look for:
For the Best Template (Theme) we add a judicious dose of subjectivity regarding the aesthetic appeal of the submitted theme. After much debate we're happy to announce the winners. For the category Best Module we award the prize to Manage your Objectives from JUMP Technologies (Mèlanie Lepage, Project Administrator). And the Best Template (Theme) prize goes to Longreach's Fudge Plus Theme (Andrew Whitehead, Project Administrator). Our congratulations go to our two winners and our sincere appreciation goes to the others who took the time and effort to submit their projects. Runners-upWe liked the Admin Tools project from the standpoint of easing system maintenance. Ken Brill, our Open Source Help forum moderator, receives kudos for this utility. The SugarCRM Module Builder was really cool. We really liked the innovation this utility displays. Olavo Farias has done some excellent work here. Another project that caught our eye was the Resource Management Module. Ryuhei Uchida, who also finds time to post more than 500 times on our forums (see “Prolific Posters” sidebar), has put together a module that manages resources like rooms and equipment. More contests on the way!Look for Sugar to sponsor more contests over the next year. We want to allow our developers to shine! With a planned refresh of SugarForge scheduled in the mid-August timeframe, we'll provide measurements (ratings, reputations, etc.) that blend together developer activities on SugarForge and the Forums, plus download activity off SugarExchange. These activities will all weigh in to contests we'll conduct on a periodic basis. Be sure to start now and update your profile and your project information with screenshots and the like. This information will be important in our selection process. |
Winner's Spotlight Manage your Objectives ![]() We were impressed by the broad applicability of this project. We liked how it can be used to quickly indicate a myriad of success factors within an organization both at the individual user and management level. As we dug deeper we found it to be well implemented – simple yet powerful. The project's excellent documentation and overall categorization was a decided plus. While we've judged more ambitious projects, it's Manage your Objectives' clarity of purpose and clean, simple implementation that won the day. Fudge Plus Theme ![]() What more can be said of Longreach's longing for longevity? Mr. Whitehead has now won this category two years in a row! The Fudge theme is as delicious as ever! We continue to appreciative the subtle color schemes employed in Fudge Plus but we really like the innovative use of selectable styles directly from within the running application. Prolific Posters Congratulations to stevec who just eclipsed the 500-post mark. There's even a thread celebrating this achievement. It's worth noting that ruchida has jumped out to a 15 post lead over malcolmh, and that stevec is now nibbling at malcolmh's 3rd place standing. This should be fun to watch. kbrill maintains his comfortable lead with 1098 posts!! Julian's Corner
