Training for the masses

In another display of Sugar's commitment to the Sugar user and developer community we now offer:  training!

Sugar is proud to announce the general availability of Sugar University Online Library that includes learning guides for Sugar users and administrators alike. Available immediately and provided free of charge, Sugar University Online Library contains over 25 topics from navigation to exporting data to configuring system settings, with more available each month.

Sugar University instructor-led Learning Sessions for basic end-users are also available at no charge (registration required). Note that  learning credits are required for instructor-led administration and power-user learning sessions, many of which include interactive hands-on labs.

More Help Forum Moderators

In order to boost responsiveness to our Open Source users we've recently expanded the number of Help Forum moderators.

Ken Brill Ryuhei UchidaMalcolm HoffmanMax Blackmer

Now, kbrill (shown on left) will be joined by (from left to right) ruchida, malcolmh and umeco, all of whom have demonstrated their dedication to the Sugar community.

In addition, in order to better arm our Moderators, we've set up a communications line that directly connects Moderators to our Support team. This will help them provide more timely, accurate responses to issues raised by the Sugar OS user base in the forums. Likewise, Sugar Support will gain from immediate notice of issues surfaced by the community.

Many thanks go to kbrill who, since January, has been the sole Help Forum moderator. Ken, you can take a breather now -- reinforcements are on the way!

Bounty Program

Sugar is embarking on an ambitious program to greatly expand the amount of community input we incorporate into Sugar product design and development.

Soon you'll see solicitations from Sugar for product enhancement design and development efforts, bug fixes, new modules, and more. We're also devising a more efficient code contribution process to enable a seamless inflow of good work from the talented Sugar community.

Implemented in a phased approach, look for elements of this program to be incorporated within the next few weeks.

Rising stars in Sugar community

They may not yet be Prolific Posters but these Sugar community members have shown a lot of energy in recent months.
  1. lvangool for his SugarWiki edits
  2. rickcrites, who, at 199 posts, is just one shy of Prolific Poster status
  3. Waleed Saad who has created a new, "hot" RTL theme in SugarForge.
Thanks to these and all the other members who help make the Sugar community an important and vibrant workplace.

Sugar Dev-User Group Update

We've reached capacity for our first Sugar Dev-User Group on November 15th. Thanks to all who signed up. We'll provide a recording of the event as well.

Got more topics in mind for the Sugar Dev-User group? Be sure to post them here.

November Project of the Month

Novacoast gets the nod for this month's Project of the Month. They actually have four projects on SugarForge but VoiceRD, also available on SugarExchange, is their flagship product.

Listen in on our interview with Eron Howard, Novacoast's VP of Development.

SugarExchange is where Sugar users, administrators, and business owners browse, download and purchase among the hundreds of items made available by Sugar developers. SugarExchange complements SugarForge by providing an attractive, user-centric directory of items created by SugarForge developers.

SugarExchange is cooking!

SugarExchange continues to garner quite a bit of attention. Site visits, downloads, and provider and listing activity continue to spiral upward.

Here are some SugarExchange listings you may find interesting:
  • Contact Capture, from Broadlook, lists the 30-day trial version of their low-end product, and reference their top-end products on their website. Check out the amount of downloads they've accomplished since listing on SugarExchange just recently.
  • An Asterisk integration from Novacoast, called VoiceRD, is a perennial favorite. We look to Novacoast to provide listings soon for their call center product.
  • CarouselCRM, from Xoetrope, is a nifty and popular offering that provides a rich client interface into Sugar.
  • Asertiva sells a way-cool Firefox Extension for Sugar that allows a user to create Sugar records directly from Firefox.

Keep your eye on SugarExchange as we continue to drive more user traffic its way.
